Private Label Pet Beds: A Fabric, Label and Packaging Brief

A private-label pet bed brief should identify the existing construction and explain exactly how the brand wants to change its presentation. Fabric, labels and packaging need separate instructions because they appear in different parts of the finished product. A clear brief makes sample comments easier to record and helps keep the approved bed, label artwork and packing information together.

Begin with a model from the current Pet Bed & Mats range and retain its item number in every version of the brief. The examples below show three established HBYT products with different material combinations; they are useful reference points for discussing a private-label collection.

Identify the base product and material combination

Base productCurrent cover and fillingUseful detail for the brief
Washed Canvas Bolster Dog Bed
YTP-1-00001
Washed canvas cover and PP cotton filling.State the cover reference and the size options to retain.
Washed Denim Bolster Dog Bed
YTP-1-00003
Washed denim cover with foam and PP cotton filling.Identify any requested cover change separately from the filling.
Plaid Bolster Dog Bed
YTP-1-00020
Cotton-linen fabric and PP cotton filling.Specify the selected plaid or provide a reference for a proposed pattern.

Give the fabric request its own section

Describe which visible areas should use each fabric: the outside panels, the sleeping surface, the bolsters and any contrasting trim. Attach labelled photographs or swatches rather than relying on a general phrase such as “premium fabric.” Identify the desired color and pattern, and mark which existing material details should remain unchanged.

Keep fabric appearance separate from the filling specification. For example, the washed denim model lists both foam and PP cotton, while the canvas model lists PP cotton filling. If a new fabric, filling or dimensional change is requested, include it explicitly for sample review. Any washing instructions or performance statements intended for the final label also need a product-specific basis.

Specify the label, artwork and placement

Provide the brand artwork, intended finished logo size and a marked image showing the preferred position. State whether the request concerns an attached product label, a hang tag, a packaging graphic or another proposed branding method. The selected fabric and construction should be reviewed before agreeing how the artwork will be applied.

List the required label text separately from the logo artwork. This can include the item reference, size name, material description, barcode and any approved care wording. State the destination market and required languages so the text can be checked as part of the project. Keep one clearly identified artwork version for sample approval.

Connect the size plan to the packaging brief

Record quantities for each size and color combination. The Plaid Bolster Dog Bed, for example, has S, M, L and XL options with current carton quantities of 40, 30, 20 and 13 pieces. Those differences should remain visible when the range is combined into one order sheet.

Describe the intended individual presentation, label position and outer-carton information. If compressed packing is requested, include a sample-based packing and recovery review in the brief. Confirm the final carton dimensions and units per carton against the approved product and packing method before using them for order planning.

Use a concise approval record

A practical approval sheet identifies the base SKU, selected sizes, material references, artwork version, label positions and packing arrangement. Date each revision and record what changed. This gives the factory and buyer a shared reference for the private-label details without replacing the product's original identity or mixing comments from different samples.

Quick questions

Can we use our own brand on an existing bed?

Yes. HBYT supports customization; provide the artwork and placement request so the appropriate method can be reviewed for the selected bed.

Does a fabric change automatically retain the same packing?

Review the final packing with the revised sample, particularly when the filling, dimensions or compression requirements also change.
