Pet Product Order Timeline: Approval and Shipment Planning
There is no single lead time that fits every wholesale pet product order. Build a project schedule from the required arrival date and the actual product, quantity, customization and destination. Separate dates you need from dates that have been reviewed and agreed.
Start with the Destination and Required Arrival Date
State where the goods need to arrive, the required delivery window and the requested trade term. Review transport, clearance and receiving arrangements with the parties responsible for them. A factory shipment date and a warehouse arrival date are different milestones.
Put Approval Decisions in the Schedule
- Specification review: confirm item numbers, quantity by model and variant, materials, dimensions and requested changes.
- Sample review: identify the sample purpose, review questions, feedback owner and any revised-sample decision.
- Artwork and packaging: confirm labels, instructions, barcode information, packing method and carton artwork for the agreed product version.
- Production follow-up: review the agreed production milestones after the order scope and approvals are clear.
- Inspection and shipment: plan the agreed checks, any corrective-action review, packing records, shipping documents and freight arrangement.
Identify Dependencies and Open Decisions
A sample change can affect materials, dimensions and packaging; a revised carton can affect transport planning. Record which later decisions depend on each approval. Assign an owner to every open item and review the schedule when the specification, quantity, packaging or destination changes.
For a multi-product order, keep the milestones for each product group visible. Ask whether the intended shipment should wait for all items or whether another agreed arrangement needs review. Do not assume that every item shares the same development or production path.
Confirm the Plan Before a Launch Commitment
Use a written list of the milestone, responsible party, required date, agreed date and current status. Review unresolved samples, documents and packing decisions before committing to a promotion or retail launch. Any allowance for revisions, transport or customs should match the actual project rather than a universal number of days.
Prepare product information with the RFQ checklist, plan approval stages with the sampling guide, and use the Christmas sourcing guide for a seasonal assortment. Send the item list and required arrival window to discuss the project schedule.
