Cat Scratchers: Comparing Shape, Base and Wrapping

A cat scratcher assortment can look varied while repeating the same shape and material combination. Before adding another design, separate three questions: what is the overall form, how much space does the base occupy, and what covers the scratching area? These details make a purchasing brief more precise than a request for a different color or a “premium” scratcher.

Compare the form before comparing the finish

An upright post, a horizontal barrel design and an angled lounger represent different product formats. Record the complete dimensions for each, then compare the silhouette and the space needed for a sample display. Height alone does not describe the whole product, and two designs with similar colors may require different shelf or floor arrangements.

ExampleListed overall sizeMain comparison point
Carrot-shaped post, YTP-5-0000133.5 × 29.5 × 61 cmUpright character shape with decorative leaves
Double-barrel scratcher, YTP-5-0000280 × 40 × 40 cmHorizontally extended, two-barrel layout
Chaise-style scratcher, YTP-5-0000360 × 42 × 44.5 cmAngled, furniture-like profile

Use the table to identify different formats for an assortment, rather than treating them as interchangeable versions of one post. A useful comparison photo shows the complete product alongside its item number and dimension drawing.

Ask for base measurements separately

Overall length and width describe the outside envelope of a product. They do not automatically identify the exact base panel dimensions or the post attachment position. If the base is important to your selection, request a drawing that labels the base, the upright section and any parts that extend beyond it.

For an approved sample, record the base shape, its listed material, connection details and the assembly arrangement. Include an underside photo where relevant. These requests give your team specific features to compare; a large-looking base in a photograph is not enough to establish its construction.

Separate the wrapping from the core

The carrot-shaped YTP-5-00001 uses a plastic core wrapped with sisal rope, decorative PE leaves, PV plush and faux rabbit fur elements. The visible rope should not lead you to describe its core as cardboard. For comparison, YTP-5-00002 lists felt with veneered-board construction, while YTP-5-00003 lists MDF and blended sisal carpet.

  • Identify the core and supporting parts separately from the outer covering.
  • Label which areas use rope, carpet, plush or other finishes.
  • When requesting a change, identify the exact part and provide a material or color reference.
  • Review the resulting sample and agreed specification together.

Connect the selection to the order

Keep the item number attached to every sample comment. These three examples each list one unit per carton and a 200-piece MOQ, but their packed dimensions differ. Ask for the current packing arrangement for your selected version, particularly if its shape, covering or packaging changes. HBYT supports customization; the specific materials, construction changes and packing requirements are reviewed for the project.

Buyer questions

Can I compare two scratchers only by overall height?

Include length, width, base details and product format as well. An upright post and an angled lounger can have different proportions even when one measurement is close.

What should I provide for a custom version?

Send the item number, quantity, marked photos or a drawing, and the parts you want changed. Add color references and packaging requirements so the sample review covers the complete request.
